Breaking Down Barriers

What are the Barriers and Blocks that are holding you back?

We all have those blocks and fears about things or those ‘limiting beliefs’ about ourselves…. don’t we? Those things that hold us back or that we avoid and can in some cases result in major barrier’ s in our lives. They can hold us back from fulfilling our potential in both our personal and professional lives. https://brilliancewithin.com/2016/08/03/are-beliefs-holding-you-back/

I trained as a hypnotherapist after suffering a series of panic attacks during 3 consecutive interviews many moons ago and as a result, didn’t manage to secure the jobs even though outside of the interview, I really was the ‘best’ person for the job.

Fortunately I was able to overcome this fear through hypnosis and went on to develop a successful career as a Senior Manager in business. Had I not managed to break through this barrier though, I would not have been able to pursue my career into a management role and it would have remained a limitation in my life and career.

As a result of receiving hypnotherapy myself, I became fascinated in the power of the mind and after much studying, I subsequently qualified as a hypnotherapist myself and have helped many people break through their fears as a result.

However, I had one more fear holding me back and for the last few days I’ve been breaking through my fear of Public Speaking…

Although I’ve delivered many workshops and training courses over the years, I feared scaling this up in order to speak on bigger stages at conferences and events.

You may recall, I went to Andy Harrington’s Power To Achieve event in February, that was amazing! https://brilliancewithin.com/2017/02/16/how-to-find-the-power-to-achieve/ So when I got the opportunity to train with him again, and  in Public Speaking, it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

Having fears holds us back from living our lives to the full and particularly with Public Speaking can be debilitating for our careers.

For anyone who feels that this is a fear for them, this course provides a brilliant system and structure and enabled me to stand and deliver a 25 minute presentation with NO script!!

Andy runs motivational events and Public Speaker training workshops in London, Manchester Melbourne, Sydney and Dubai etc…

Here’s an affiliate link to his site and I highly recommend attending this or his FREE Power To Achieve event which may help you start breaking down your barriers and enable you to live the life of your dreams… https://inspwr.isrefer.com/go/passion/a15974 Clicking on this link provides access to Andy Harrington’s Free Book ‘Passion Into Profit’… this is a great book and all you have to pay is the postage – it’s well worth every penny!

  1. Wendy, your post is inspirational! 😀 To have overcome your panic attacks many years ago and then train and qualify as a hypnotherapist is fantastic. The ultimate fear for many is public speaking (myself included) so amazing to read about the course and that you could deliver a 25 min talk without notes. Well done! 😀

      1. Glad you’ve broken free of those boundaries Wendy. My third day brought lots of dramas, too many to mention here. I have so many barriers to break through and so many systems to learn. It wouldn’t faze me so much if I had someone good to teach me but my manager, who is incredibly IT savvy, doesn’t seem to know how to train. Instead she expects me to sit and watch her and then just ‘get it’. Aagh. Anyway, who knows what today will bring. Hopefully I will have a breakthrough of a good kind. Big hugs to you. Hope all’s well at your end. xo

        1. Oh yikes Miriam – there’s nothing worse than a ‘trainer’ who can’t train… particularly where IT is concerned.. The only thing I can suggest is that you explain that the way you learn best is to make ‘baby notes’… that’s what I do.. Absolute step by step notes that I can refer back to and avoid me having to ask.. The problem will be if the manager doesn’t have the patience but it would save time in the long run.. aghhhhh – nightmare! Good luck for today and if it’s any consolation I’m having an IT nightmare right now.. I’ve managed to change them accidentally on my blog and now everything is all over the place and I haven’t got a clue how to correct it… yep Aghhhhh!!!!! Not quite as bad as you cos it’s not ‘work’ but at least you’re not alone feeling like an IT numb scull! Good luck for today Miri xxx

          1. Thanks Wendy. Baby notes … yes you’re right, that’s the way. I started taking some the other way but she’s way too fast and too impatient which is making it really hard. I think she has deadlines looming so she’s hoping I’ll just ‘get it’ but unfortunately I don’t work that way. Challenging times, that’s for sure. Sorry to hear you’re having your own IT nightmare Good luck getting things back on track with your blog Wendy. I’m sure you’ll work it out. Here’s to both of us getting on top of things. Big big hugs xo

  2. As always, really enjoy reading your posts 🙂
might be worth to create a series about that topic/area too?
There is sooo many people with sooo many blocks and soooo many different ways how to approach the block etc.
Think this would help many 🙂

  3. Way to go Wendy! You’re always taking the next step and pushing the boundaries! I am in a time of deep introspection and self work as I have realized just how much self doubt I possess in turn holding myself back a great deal. Its like when I taste success Im not sure if it belongs to me I get nervous and turn around. I need to own it. Thank you Wendy! Truly admire your 25 minute speech without notes and willingness to overcome!

    1. Awww – thanks Victoria.. I haven’t always ‘pushed the boundaries’ but I’ve realised that I don’t want to be ‘held back’ by self imposed limitations.. It really is a case of ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ – which by the way is a worthwhile ‘self help’ read.. a book by Suzanne Jeffers.. I still never feel good enough and read something recently which explained how common that feeling is.. They recommended writing ‘I am good enough’ around the house so that you see it constantly as a reminder… You truly are ‘good enough’ Victoria – You do such wonderful photography and take up wonderful causes… Yes you are definitely ‘good enough’ and you may just have to ‘fake it til you make it’.. in terms of what you tell yourself.. Much love my lovely friend and sending a BIG hug! xxx
