5 Steps to Create Your ‘Focus’ Vision Board

I was first inspired to create a Vision Board having read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. If you’ve read my previous blog post How to Create a Dream Vision Board, (if not take a peak), you may have been inspired to create your first ‘Dream Board’ (have you been looking at it daily?)

You may be one of the people who doesn’t need a ‘Dream Board’ as you already have lots of those ‘dream goals’ in your head – great! In that case you can skip creating a Dream Board and continue with the rest of us to create a ‘Focus Vision Board’.

This post shows you how to take some of those ‘dreams’ and start providing focus and clarity with 5 key steps to help you turn your dreams into a reality.

“The more clear and definite you make your picture then, and the more you dwell upon it, bringing out all its delightful details, the stronger your desire will be: and the stronger your desire, the easier it will be to hold your mind fixed upon the picture of what you want.”

Wallace Wattles – The Science of Getting Rich

So, as in the words of Wallace Wattles above, the ‘Focus Board’ is about ‘bringing out all the delightful details‘ of your dream.

Choose one of the images/dreams from your ‘Dream Board’ or from within your mind and then start to really develop the vision around that specific ‘dream’.

1. What you will need:

Large piece of card – I use A3 (as in previous ‘dream board’ post)

Coloured felt tip pens – I like to use a combination of colours but also some ‘silver and gold’ pens.

Magazines/Brochures

Internet images e.g. from Google images, Pinterest or any other similar ‘visual image’ sites

2. Here’s How:

Write down a very clear and detailed description of your ‘dream’ or ‘goal’.

Example – Vision to move house:

  • Use your coloured felt tips to write down some specific features
    • Where would your dream home be located?
    • What would it look like from the outside?
    • How many bedrooms?
    • How many bathrooms?
    • What sort of garden

Focus Vision example:

  • I live in a detached farmhouse style house built of old stone. The house has 4 bedrooms, a family bathroom, a downstairs wetroom and an en suite bathroom to the master bedroom. The house has a beautiful country cottage style garden full of English roses with a wooden arbour and a summer house. I love spending time in the garden watching my granddaughters playing in their tree house. Working in my garden office is so peaceful and inspires my creativity

  • The traditional country style grey kitchen has white marble worksurfaces and an aga and it’s become a central hub for my family to congregate. The smell of fresh coffee wafts through the downstairs ..mmm..

  • etc.etc. etc……

The more specific you are in your description the better. It can really help to check out some of the Internet Property For Sale/Rent websites (in the UK – Zoopla, Rightmove etc.) for ideas. If you see a particular property that you would ‘love’ – print off the property details and stick these onto your focus board.

Now it’s time to ‘design’ the rooms within your ‘dream home’. – Look for images of the type of kitchen and bathrooms that you would want? What type of lounge/bedrooms would you have? Find pictures of the garden or driveway that you would want?

Imagine yourself as the interior designer creating a design board – Add pictures that really inspire you  – Remember – the more clarity you give on your Focus Board the better.

However, take heed – specific doesn’t mean ‘cluttered’  and as in the words of Jack Canfield (inspirational speaker/author):

Keep it neat, and be selective about what you place in your vision board. It’s a good idea to avoid creating a cluttered or chaotic board… you don’t want to attract chaos into your life.

I’ve found Pintrest a great source of inspiration for interior design styles and the ‘Ideal Home’ ‘Homes and Garden’ type glossy magazines also provide some stunning pictures that I cut out and add to the ‘Focus Board’.

The same principle of adding ‘detail’ to your dream applies to any of the ‘dreams’ you have. It’s not enough to stick in the ‘dream’ state where everything is a bit woolly…

Providing clear focus and clarity around your dream and letting your imagination run wild related to a specific goal creates an emotional bond with the idea. It starts to move you into a sense of excitement.

Start with one of your dreams and then over the next few weeks/months, create a ‘Focus Board’ for each of your dreams.

I find using an A3 folder is really useful as it enables you to store all your ‘focus boards’ in one place and then flick through it each morning and night. I recommend that you keep it in your bedroom in a prominent place so that it’s the first thing you look at in the morning and last thing you see at night.

3. Once you have created your Focus Board:

Look at the ‘Focus Board’ daily then close your eyes for a few minutes and imagine how you feel when you have achieved your dream.

Example: Dream Home

  • Imagine yourself walking through your new front door
    • What would it feel like to be living in your ‘dream home’?
    • Who would be there, who would visit – what would they say about your home?
    • What sounds would you hear? – it may be a ‘dog’, ‘children laughing in the garden, water from the ‘water feature’
    • What would the house smell like?

4. Put all your senses to work as you imagine yourself each day wandering around your ‘dream home’.

You may find that what once what seemed like an ‘impossible dream’ starts to feel like it could become a reality.

After you’ve created your focus board and looked at it daily for 2 weeks, ask yourself:

5. How could I achieve this?

You don’t need to answer the question, simply ask yourself the question just before you fall to sleep at night. Your subconscious mind will then set to work on ‘the how’. For now you need do no more.

You may find that ideas start to pop into your head or that you notice opportunities that previously you may have missed e.g. you may overhear a conversation that gives you that little bit of information you needed or you notice an article in the Newspaper or on the Internet that give you the snippet you need. This happened for me as detailed in my post: How I created my first Vision Board Magic.

The picture of my car focus board (above) which I created in 2013 absolutely worked. Owning a sport style car seemed an impossible dream when I added it to my Dream Board and then created the Focus Board. I went to a local garage to look at a car with my son and whilst he was discussing options with the dealer, a beautiful brand new black Peugeot RCZ which was a car I’d never seen before caught my attention.

It was a ‘wow’ car so I wandered over to look and it never crossed my mind that this would be within our price range. I took a double take when I saw the costs for taking the car on a ‘passport’ (a bit like a private lease) deal – this was a ‘special edition’ and fitted my ‘dream vision’ perfectly.

It was only a couple of months after I’d done my focus board and within 1 week of being drawn over to have a look at a car I never thought would be within our budget, we were driving the black sport style car out of the Peugeot Car Showroom in Sale, Manchester and yes – because it was a Special Edition, it even had the  Red upholstery!!

When you get those moments of ‘intuition’, PAY ATTENTION! Write anything down that you notice or that pops into your head that relates to your Dream. You will be using this information to turn your dream into a reality.

Happy Focus Vision Boarding!

It would be great to hear your thoughts on this post – please leave a comment. It would also be fantastic to hear some of your stories related to Vision Boarding too..

        1. No I’ve not and will definitely check him out. I’ve been listening to some good youtube videos recently though of some old footage of Bob Proctor talking about the ‘science’ behind the Law of Attraction – they are worth a watch too.. Keep rowing in the direction of the tide – that’s the secret – how often do you look back and realise you’ve been rowing against the tide – sticking to old habits and routines when you should be ‘going with the flow’? x

    1. Fabulous – I realised last night that another goal on my dream board came true when I booked a last minute holiday and got an amazing villa for a quarter of it’s real cost. We had a luxury holiday for a fraction of the price it would normally be. It didn’t click with me until I was looking at my board last night and read the words – more for less.. Fab!

  2. Fantastic post, Wendy! And your car, oh my! My great Aunt gifted me the secret while I was in High School and have been using a vision board for a few years. Just last week I purchased my dream truck for navigating mountains which at one time seemed near to impossible. I have manifested so many of my dreams I have to continue to cultivate new ones- it is so fun and powerful!
